I've made a small wish list for the Cruise Missile.
First off the wheels. I did some measuring and there is currently 14" of clearance between the fender and the frame, all the shocks and springs are mounted inboard the frame. The stock wheels are 15" x 6" wide. That leaves me a massive 8" of free real estateto play with. No wonder the wheels and tires look so skinny. The wheels I'm currently thinking of are KMC XD810 Ballads 20" x 9" wide. Yes I know what you thinking. Truck wheels on a car? Well yes you see the Lincoln is basically a truck with a car body on it, it weighs 5000lbs. A heavy duty car needs heavy duty wheels. Besides I actually really like the style of these. They should be brotastic enough.
$330.00 CAD Each
Now we need tires. I've used Falken tires before more specifically the Falken FK452's and I really liked them. The FK452's have been replaced with the Fk453cc's essentially a sport SUV tire that can handle the heavy load of the Linc, they have a load index of 110 so they will be more than adequate. I initially wanted 295/40R20 but they specify that they should be installed on a 10-12" wide wheel. The wheels I'm looking at are 9" wide so I have to downsize the tire a bit. So I'm thinking 275/45R20. The 275's are about 11.5" wide at it's widest point and should fill up the fenders very nicely and give the car a much more aggressive look.
$183.00 CAD Each
Now that we have wheels and tires covered we need to let this puppy breathe. A custom bent 3" exhaust thru a nice throaty high flow muffler. I plan on keeping it single exit exhaust. I never liked seeing the exhaust so I would have the new exhaust exit the same way it did from the factory, sort of hidden behind the bumper on the passenger side.
Then I'll need some type of 750CFM 4 barrel carb. I might try to find on used so I can save a few bucks.
Wheels - 4 x $330.00
Tires - 4 x $183.00
Used carb - 1 x ~$150.00
Total for this stuff so far: $2202.00 + whatever it will cost for the custom bent exhaust.
I've played with the idea of swapping a diesel in the car and it is still a strong possibility. But if I keep the gas guzzler I hope to keep The budget under 5K including the cost of the car. so this leaves me ~1200.00 for more power parts and/or repairs.

Don't put XDs on that thing, just don't do it man. It's a Lincoln, not a coal rollin' Chevy 2500.

What would you put on a 5500lbs car?

My preference would be to keep the stock look but with wider and larger rims. A custom wheel shop would have no trouble making them and maybe cheaper per rim.

If it were mine? Stock, or a style similar to stock, depending on where I wanted to take the car. The wheels should be as clean and understated as the car, not flavor-of-the-week bro truck wheels.

Those wheels. They don't look good. They don't look bad–good. They just look bad. Don't do it.

Look for a set of factory turbine wheels:
Also, think about how dumb those 20's will look with rusty drum brakes behind them. You'll have a much harsher ride and no improvement in handling.

Yeah, I'm personally against those wheels too. In my opinion, they just wouldn't look right on your car.

Awesome! If you're doing headers and a carb, it would probably be worth it to also port the heads and throw in a hotter cam I believe. Before any of that, I'd do a tuneup and change every fluid, and check all filters/hoses/belts. As for wheels and tires, I think stock looks best but it's not going to float down the road with any sort of sporty setup. When you have them off, brake pads/bleed brakes. Obvious stuff but I wish that I'd tackled it all at once when I got my old car.

If you're going to spend the money on headers, performance mufflers and a custom-bent system, don't strangle it by making it single exhaust. A good shop should be able to tuck both pipe ends up under the bumper. Maybe with something like this just peeking out.
I'm also in the "no" camp on those wheels.

Did you get a new knob or fix the windshield wiper issue yet?

I have the knob for it, it is in the ashtray. I just need to get a clip for the knob. The wipers were actually just frozen up. Once I chipped away all the ice they work fine I just need to use pliers to turn them on or off. The blades are shot so I bought a new set and will put those on before taking the car out again.

That's excellent!
